Our first entry ...

We have an email entry for February from Donna Seamon.

 Donna says ...

I love the style of the inspiration poster. It challenged me to use colors together, that I wouldn't normally gravitate to.

The color and movement reminded me of this photo of my daughter, that I took after we finished decorating for my grandson's birthday party at the Milwaukee (Wisconsin) County Zoo.  My daughter's sense of accomplishment and pride beam in her smile. She did a twirl and 'snap', I captured it all.

February on Pixels and Paper ...

Welcome to February.  We had a wonderful response to our inspiration piece this past month. Thank you so much for creating with us.

This month we bring you something a little different - a vintage poster.  I just love the colours and the free flowing feel of this design.

What do you see when you study this image?  Dancing, water flowing, a bright tropical scene, flowers, parrots,  a red haired girl, ballet class, playing dress up, Paris, even a wedding perhaps.  We'd love to see your interpretation of this wonderful poster.

You will be delighted with the sample pages created by the Pixels and Paper team.

For my inspiration I looked at the suggested movement of the dancer, body and clothes, took some of the colours, and gave it quite a twist, (as you shall see!)
The very first thing that sprang to mind when I first saw this picture was a Spanish Dancer... not  the human variety, but the marine creature. It is the name given to a spectacular branch of the sea-slug (horrid name for gorgeous creatures) family.

I've used a dotted card stock background (Bo Bunny) and among the techniques used have been applied gesso through a stencil and coloured it with mists and ink sprays to give extra dimension and texture.

HEIDI
I really enjoyed this page, I was inspired by the lovely bright colours in the picture and the Paris theme.  I used lots of liquid pearls using my fingers on the masking using impasto.
Lots of stamps and charms and some Paris epoxies. I love to create shabby pages.

JANE

I loved the colours in this poster and to me they fully screamed "tropical location" so I combined both these aspects as well as figuring in the dance aspect by using a photograph of hula dancers in Hawaii.

TONE-LILL

I love the inspiration picture this month, and as I am making an album for my niece I had the perfect photo of her to use. She was standing on my grandmum's kitchen table trying her "flower girl"  dress on, for her parents wedding, flicking the  dress skirt as she felt like a Princess.

ALICIA

This month I was captivated by the passion and fluidity of the dancer, the blue dress flaming where she spun reminded me of a picture I have from our wedding reception almost ten years ago! My father had them bring out ten saganaki, and they were lit on two trays at the same time. The tradition is to say, "Opa!" To show happiness and celebration (can you tell I'm from a part Greek family?) I selected a yellow champagne page and matted the photos in red to play off the colors in the photo. I chose white accents because they reminded me of her milky skin tone. I hope you are inspired by the photo this month and join us by creating your own expression of this picture.

Please upload the DIRECT link to your actual entry with the link tool on the LEFT by 11.55pm on February 28th, 2014.
