Welcome to our July challenge and a DT call ...

Welcome to July.  Thank you everyone for the wonderful response we received last month.  We had some amazing entries!  We truly appreciate your support.

Apart from our normal challenge this month we are also putting out a DT call for several new members to join our design team.  Please find all the relevant details HERE.  Applications close 20th July.

And now onto our July challenge ....

This month we are working with this terrific image - does this take you back to the fun fairs of your youth?  Do you remember riding on the carousel or taking your children on the merry-go- round?  Does this remind you of those fun times on the dodgem cars or of eating fairy floss (cotton candy) until you we so sick you couldn't eat another bite!  Perhaps you think of going to the circus or visiting the rides at shopping centres or at vacation spots.  Maybe you just like the colours - I see lots of red, yellow, blue and white, there's stars and flags and puffy white clouds.

Whatever the inspiration, we would love to see your work.  Please don't forget to tell us what it was that caught your eye.

The colours this month inspired me to scrap the bright photos of our son painting.  I loved this challenge - bright colours are great fun to work with -  hope you join us this month :)

I had to go back to the picture of the very first time my son enjoyed the merry -go-round while we were travelling in CA when I saw this carnival inspiration photo. For two years we had been promising him that he would love it, but he was such a careful little guy he would refuse to ride on anything but the seat. My journaling style was drawn from one of my favorite scrapbook artists in America, Julie Fey-Fan Balzer. I just couldn't leave out my little man's favorite treat, so I had fun adding the cotton candy border!

The inspiration photo made me think of when DD Tirill and I had a day in London and had time to visit London Eye. . I fussycut  a photo of her on the Westminster bridge with the "Eye" in the background, and created my own scene around the photo using all sorts of mixed media to recreate the scenery. One of the metal charms on my page is prom the penny machine with an image of London Eye.

This image made me immediately think of all the fun fairs and circus troops we have visit the area where I live.  They set up on an oval near the waterfront and as I go past this area at least four times each week day they become a familiar and comforting sight for the time they are visiting us.  The Great Moscow Circus was very special as rather than the traditional "big top" they had a series of turreted tents, I guess to replicate the domes of St Peter's Basilica in The Red Square in Moscow.  None the less it was an impressive sight.

For this month's challenge my inspiration came from the circle and cogs associated with the ferris wheel. I also used some of the colours from the picture. I've used a large cog chipboard piece, covered with embossed aluminium flashing. I've also added diecut cogs made from layers of crumpled foil. The photos are all sky shots taken from my front garden..... 12, to represent aspects of time.

We also welcome our Guest Designer this month - ANNA VOLKER.

Hi, I'm Anna and I've been scrapping for about 6 years.  I have three gorgeous boys and live in Brisbane,

I prefer 12 x 12 layouts and love the colour pink which I don't get to use too often but still sneak in every now and then lol. I'm on the DT for Black with 2 which is another awesome challenge site. I love joining in a variety of challenges . Scrapping has quickly become a major part of my day and rarely a day goes past where I don't have some creative play.

I was very inspired by the bright colours this month. I love to scrap bright colours. Thanks Jane for letting me be your guest designer this month I really enjoyed it .

Thank you for joining us this month Anna!

Please upload the DIRECT link to your actual entry to the link tool on the LEFT by 11.55pm on July 31st.

You are welcome to submit traditional paper layouts, art journals, divided page protectors, smash books (etc etc).  Digital entries are welcomed and encouraged.  All entries must be new for this challenge and no back-linking is allowed.  I am happy for you to combine with other challenges (maximum of 3) but the essence of the Pixels and Paper inspiration must be clear in your work. Combining with a sketch or colour challenge would be preferred.  International submissions are welcome.
